Proxisense explores miniaturised LiquiSensor™ technology through A4I

Proxisense has been awarded £74,943 through Innovate UK’s Analysis for Innovators (A4I) programme to investigate whether LiquiSensor™ can be adapted to provide accurate, non-destructive measurements of small-volume, high-value pharmaceutical samples.

The project, Advanced Medicine Manufacturing Sensor, is being delivered in collaboration with CPI and focuses on exploring a new miniaturised version of the LiquiSensor™ technology.

A key challenge is how to obtain detailed measurements from very small samples without significantly heating or otherwise disturbing the material being tested. This requires a fundamental rethink of the sensor’s geometry and energy delivery.

The project will combine thermal modelling, sensor design and experimental testing to investigate different miniaturised LiquiSensor™ configurations and establish safe operating limits for small, thermally sensitive samples.

The work includes modelling heat transfer behaviour, assessing different sensor geometries, defining temperature and energy requirements, and testing representative therapeutic materials. The project will also explore the data capture and software requirements needed for both static and continuous measurements.

The aim is to establish whether a miniaturised LiquiSensor™ could provide useful, rapid measurements for applications where only small quantities of valuable pharmaceutical material are available, including potential personalised medicine applications.

The project is being delivered through the Analysis for Innovators: Critical Enabler Partnership Stage 2 programme, with Proxisense and CPI working together to explore the feasibility and requirements of the technology.
